Activity 14: Developing paragraphs

Rearrange the following sentences into a logically developed paragraph. Use the transition words to help you find the correct order.

Paragraph 1

  1. To be successful in a job interview, you should demonstrate certain personal and professional qualities.
  2. Furthermore, you must make such a positive impression that the interviewers will remember you while they are interviewing other applicants.
  3. And finally, if you really want to impress, you must convey a sense of self-confidence and enthusiasm for work.
  4. Besides care for personal appearance, you need to be careful about your manner of speaking and ensure that you speak in a friendly but polite manner.
  5. The first and often most lasting impression will be made by the clothes you wear so you should take care to appear dressed suitably for office work.
  6. You need to create a good image in the limited time available, usually not more than an hour.
  7. You should also be prepared to speak knowledgeably about the requirements of the position.
